A Special Request

My old college pal and former room-mate and I had our first children within 3 days of each other. She had a girl, and I had a boy. Our two youngsters have grown up together, and almost 9 years later, they still think they are going to marry each other. I'm serious. I'm not exaggerating. I'll just put it this way: my son saved all his money and this past Valentine's Day insisted my husband take him shopping. Was he buying a present for his sweet mama? Noooo.... he was buying a real pearl necklace for his sweet Abby.... with a heart charm on it and all.

So the love story begins almost exactly NINE years ago, and THREE days apart...

This contraption our mom puts us under is so psychedelic, yet I can't turn away...

I don't know why you're crying about it, I thought it was friggin hilarious!

See, the cap fits right on this magical thing that holds water and you turn it upside down,  twist it off...

I thought on our first date we could go trick-or-treating

And it's come to this....

So, back to "A Special Request"....

My friend, Abby's mom had asked me to draw something up for the invitations to her 9th birthday next month. I had made the invitations for our children's first birthday, and they turned out pretty cute:

I made a cake with a "pocket" and put little cut-outs with the information inside. I hand-painted each card (there were about 75). First, what was I thinking hand-painting that many....Second, what were we thinking inviting that many....I've got it down to 3 kids and an e-mail now!!

She told me the theme this year was a "Camp-out/Slumber Party". Here's what I came up with.

My friend at The Social Note helped me with the font and PDF format.

And tonight at dinner sweet Abby, my future daughter in-law (*wink) came up to me and told me she wished I was her God-mother. Happy Times!

I Love Me Some Bargains

So I was on 1st Dibs looking at the new listings, like I do every Saturday morning... and this vintage 1940's doll stood out to me...

Heir Antiques has this souvenir doll, shown above, from the T.S. Bremen German Steam Ship listed as a "Creepy Stuffed Sailor Man." That made me laugh aloud. Yes, he's creepy! But I also laughed when I saw their asking price of $200. Because I too have some "creepy stuffed sailor men" from the 1940s, shown below...

(above two images: cashon & co)

And my souvenir sailor doll from the Holland Steam Line was less than $20... In fact, all my sailor dolls were less than $20! Thanks, Ebay!!
