Round Top & Marburger in Texas

Well, I just got back last night at midnight from a 2 day trip to South Texas, where the Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush were in bloom and the Texas country air smelled dusty & delicious, only in a way that a native Texan could appreciate. Me and a  group of girls (5 in all, and 7 including the gals we met up with there) drove the 4 hours down there to shop the twice-a-year antique festivals. There are little towns scattered along highway 77 in and around Round Top, and they each have tents in the fields where dealers come in from all over the USA and set up their wares. Round Top has a population of 77, but during these two weeks there are thousands of people here. Marburger Farms started yesterday, and that was my favourite show. Just imagine this: Thousands of women (and maybe 5 husbands who looked like they stepped through the gates of frilly hell) all dressed to the nines (*texas country-stye of course: lots of bling and boots) stomping through tents sprinkled with cedar, and looking at $10,000 french sideboards. Okay, not everything was pricey, and most wasn't, but there was such a vast array of objects -- Here are a few examples, and a short summary of our trip....

THE JOURNEY

We saw what any other person would see on the road trip there, a monkey tied to a hog...

and a cowboy directing traffic...

THE FARMS

The weather was PERFECT and the grass was green and the cows were grazing. Truly gorgeous

AND JUST IN CASE YOU FORGOT YOU WERE IN TEXAS, YOU HAD THESE SUBTLE REMINDERS...
