Celebrate! Ring in the New Year!

I love this picture of Marilyn Monroe. (Yes, can you believe that's Marilyn? Dressed up as Clara Bow) This image sums up what I think is a perfect, crazy, fun, wild, glamorous party is... or could be...

These photographs of the top-hat with the pocket-watch are so awesome. A stylish Father Time...
This New Years Eve,  I'll be with my boys, snuggling together doing puzzles or Legos, watching fireworks (hopefully) and giving them a big smackeroo at midnight...If they stay awake until then (or if I stay awake until then.)  How will you say goodbye to 2009 and hello to 2010?

Whatever you do, have a Safe & Happy Celebration. Here's to a New, Peaceful Year...Full of Hope and Promise.

Greek Love

I found a new favorite site. It's called It's All Greek, and if you like things inspired by Greece, this is the website for you. From jewelry to vases and plates, this on-line store from the UK has it! To see more, go here.

Minoan Fresco Tile The Prince with Lillies

Minoan Fresco Tile The Saffron Gatherer

Large Torque of 18k gold plate on pliant woven bronze

Cuff bracelet of 18k gold plate on pliant woven bronze

White Background Pyxis (jewellery box) The Judgement of Paris

Red Figure Kantharos Herakles and the Amazons

I love greek pottery. I remember in my first pottery class, I made a greek plaque. I will have to look for it, it wasn't bad for a 13 year old! To see my own (rather small but cherished) collection of greek vases, go here.

Amber Essence

PRADA L'Eau Ambree

I just smelled this new fragrance from Prada for the first time, and I have to say I really like it. It is not super feminine, and not truly floral, but it is an amber-based scent that is warm and woody. I immediately picked up on the patchouli and vanilla, but it also has notes of citron, rose de mai, gardenia and opoponax (an herb grown in warm climates like Greece, Italy, or Turkey. It is also called sweet myrrh). If you don't like sweet scents, this might be one for you to try on! Available here at Neiman Marcus.

If One's good, Two Must Be Better

A queen bed is the usual standard for a guest room. In the house I grew up in, our guest room had two twin beds. I never understood this. But, as I grew older and thought about it, it does make sense. And if you've got the space for it, I think it is a great idea! I have yet to design a guestroom with a pair of beds in it, and when I get the chance, I hope to do a pair of full sized beds. Until then, I can use these pictures as inspiration. Maybe you can too.

In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a dramatic canopy

Great coverlets! I like the way the corners are cut and trimmed. I've always liked red and pink together. The red headboards keep this room from being juvenile.

The simple red stripe trim on the top of the curtains is a great way to tie in the colored thread on the white duvets. I always like having a seat/bench at the end of a bed too. These are a fresh take on that idea, and a little unexpected.

Here's a pair of full sized beds... This room isn't gigantic (well, it IS pretty darn big) and it works well here.

It's Been 83 Years

Yes, it's been 83 years since Dallas/Ft. Worth has seen a White Christmas. The last year on record, was in 1926, that is until this year, when starting on Christmas Eve a blizzard blew through our city. Now, I seriously say blizzard because the first blizzard warning in DFW's entire history was issued! Ever! We've never had one, and let me say, it was weird. I've never seen snow swirling and blowing sideways. But with blizzards comes a blanket of snow covering the ground, just in time for Christmas morning yesterday.  It was wonderful. My boys put giant snowballs in the freezer, and when my dog was let outside, he got HYPER. Dogs get so frisky in the cold! Much like children! I know many people in the northern climates are used to this, but for us in the south, it is special. These images of animals in the snow made me smile, as I can relate to their joyous expressions now.
