Our Big Back Yard

These next two weeks the State of Texas hosts the State's Fair here in Dallas. It is the largest Fair in the Nation. I will be posting later on that, but it gives me an excuse to really celebrate our great State this month.

For those of you who are not that familiar with the big veritable land that is Texas, it is really more than what you think it is. Speaking from a purely geographical view, Texas has almost every type of land and vegetation there is. We have Forests and Pine trees (Northeast), Mountains and Canyons (West & Southwest), Deserts (West), Oceans (South and Southeast), Rolling Hills (South).... Ghost Towns as well as the 4th, 7th & 8th largest Cities in the USA (Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas respectively). We are  the birthplace of Cowboys, Margaritas and Neiman Marcus.

Yes, I love my birth town, Dallas, Texas! Though technically I'm half German, my parents love to tell the story of how I would describe myself, at about 10 years of age.  I'd say "I'm half German, half Texan, and 100% Dallas". But if your'e born and raised in Texas, you do love the whole state and all it's personalities.

People think that Texans are bigger than life, well........that may be partly true. Of course, one thing that does set us apart is our enormous landscape. But here you will also find the most genuine people in the world. People with giant personalities, who say what they mean and mean what they say. Big hearts and sincere words. And yes, things are larger than life here. And that's not always a bad thing. (Let me set this straight though: THERE IS NO MORE BIG HAIR HERE. That drives me crazy. It's been gone since the 1980's!)

But for now, I thought I'd share some of the magnificent backyards here in our state. Each of these photographs are somebody's view from their house. Wow. Until my next "Texas Is Great" sales pitch........enjoy!
