D Home: Beautiful Houses in Dallas

The September/October issue of D Home Magazine just came out, with the cover title The 10 Most Beautiful Houses in Dallas.  Here are my favorite three picks of their top 10.

Built in 1920, this is my favorite of the bunch.  I could try and tell you all the reasons, but the D Home editors summed it up perfectly when they said: "Admit it. You didn't even look at the address. You know exactly where this house is. It's iconic. We love so much about this house - the eyebrow window, the great side veranda - but it's the spiral staircase that gets us every time. Is there a better way to escape boring guests?"

This  european inspired house, above,  was built in 1941 by noted architects Herbert M. Greene, LaRoche & Dahl.

This wonderfully symmetrical Mediterranean style house was built in 1926, back when Dallas was having houses built by such renowned architects as Bertram Hill, Fooshee & Cheek, Clifford D. Hutsell, Sir Alfred Bossom, Anton Korn, John Allen Boyle, Carsie & Linskey, Dines & Kraft, Charles D. Hill,  and later Charles Dilbeck.

The above and two below photographs are from the same issue of D Home Magazine. The article features a family that remodeled a 1950's ranch house.  The above photo shows the entry, with an antique Rococo console and an antique Venetian mirror. On either side of the mirror are Vaughn sconces that the homeowner found at George Cameron Nash.

According to the magazine, the homeowner "created the ultimate work space with a Louis XV desk with lamps from Donghia. The desk also houses the antique Boulle & Baccarat crystal liquor set that was a gift to her husband from her father, a noted antiques dealer. The ottoman is covered in Bergamo fabric available at ID Collection." I would agree. This is the ultimate work space.

I love the above antique chinoiserie secretary.  I'm a big fan of using asian furniture and chinese porcelain. The colors in this secretary are especially soft. The garden seat is from one of my favorite shops, by one of my favorite designers, Michelle Nussbaumer's Ceylon et Cie.
