I like these photographs in that they represent the way an interior space can be masculine and warm. There is something about a well-founded room that makes me want to retire with a good book, an album on my record player (yes, I do listen to a record player), and a leaded crystal glass of Whiskey Scotch. If I drank Whiskey. Or Scotch.
This is a "fresh" approach to a masculine space, but the frameless painting and the angular lines and patterns in the pillows keep it from being feminine.

The rich chocolate walls really pop against the bright white trim. A pair of tufted leather chairs give this room the library feel and although the ottoman has a skirt, it does not look frilly.
This is a more formal look but with rich textures such as the velvet couch and a massive oil painting, the room looks very substantial.
The tortoise faux finish around this vanity makes this bath warm and luxurious.
Repeating the red on the ceiling as well as on the fabrics and upholstery keeps this study cozy. I am a big fan of the articulated library lights. They act as wall sconces by giving indirect light, but at the same time they hi-light all the magnificent spines of the books.

This is a library I designed using existing antiques and art but added catalogue purchases such as Restoration Hardware sofas and a Horchow wool rug. It is still somewhat of a semi-formal room but the online retail purchases keep it from being too "high brow".

These walls are so glamorous! But the simple wooden chairs and native style drum keep this room's look "down to earth".
I love the idea of dining in a library. The two tufted benches are a good space saver and keep the visual to the bookcases open. This looks like a real loved library, with well-read books.

The way Sommers placed the massive sized mirrors against the wall, really opens up this space and gives it another dimension. A good solution to scaling down a mega-sized wall.

A recurring theme in masculine rooms, as well as all elegantly appointed rooms, is definitely animal prints.

This space looks like it belongs to a world explorer, who is an expert in discovery as well as collections. The mix of the stone bust, hide rug, and giant clam shell personally speak to me.

I particularly love the grey-blue lacquered walls and of course the cubist painting over the modern fireplace surround is perfect. I have a particular fondness for a flat panel of glass as a fireplace screen and these andirons are so heavy and deco looking. This is subtle sophistication at it's finest!

The purple accents keep this otherwise traditionally dressed room from being predictable.
