Bring it Back: Blade Runner

I'm getting us ready for the upcoming Halloween Holiday with some deliciously dismal Sci-Fi, one of my favorite movies, Blade Runner. Well, I say favorite....I have seen the first half at least 20 times, but only stayed awake to see the ending once! And it was this year. But it's a good thing! I find the music so relaxing that sometimes I will put it on just to fall asleep to the soundtrack. It's like golf. I don't need to watch the game to find it peaceful and relaxing and also the best background noise to take a nap to.

"Rachel" in Bladerunner played by Sean Young

I remember when the movie came out in 1982, as a young person, my first reaction to seeing the movie poster was "why is Han Solo in another movie besides Star Wars"? I saw it for the first time not in 1982 but in 1996.  The movie is set in the 21st Century Los Angeles, with Harrison Ford playing a cop, a "Blade Runner", who is out to terminate all artificially made humans, aka "replicants". Sean Young plays Rachel, a replicant who doesn't know she is not a true human being. The future is bleak and the city looks like a grim, dark version of Hong Kong. But I find it interesting how Rachel's fashion is so decidedly retro. Very Gothic 1940's Glam. And Pris, played by Daryl Hannah, is very 80's Blondie Punk Rock. And the people walking in the streets are wearing plastic or kimono's. Its a gloomy visual treat. Perfect for Halloween.
