In case you're not from anywhere west of the Mississippi, "critters" is slang for creatures,
and the ones below are pretty fabulous.
I love this hermit crab, a la Tony Duquette...
This would be lovely hanging out on a bookshelf, in a terrarium,
or at a place setting for a low country boil supper.
Pretty cute, right?
While we're on the topic of turbo shells (the type of shell you see above),
here's a group of them that would be perfect as a decoration in a little dish on
a console as you walk in the door.
If you just can't picture the right dish to put them in, try this one.
As a matter of fact, these shells work really well for display dishes.
I love the detail of this tiny seahorse and fish mixed in with some shark teeth.
Here are a couple of close-ups...
If the idea of preserved fish makes you a little jumpy (sorry, couldn't resist!), try this cheerful
little frog carved from lilac colored agate.
It comes with a stand custom made for the carving.
This charming bug would be a lovely addition to any critter collection...
and would work great as a bootjack, doorstop, or bookend.
Last of all is this lovely wooden fish - fish, what kind of fish - is it a dolphin in the style of the 'gurgling dolphins' seen in antique porcelain? The detail on the carving is
beautiful, and it would look perfect swimming among some picture frames
on a bookshelf, weighing down some papers on a desk, or nestled into
an ocean vignette.
And in case you're wondering just where you can find the materials for an ocean
vignette, try here.
