GOOD TO KNOW

I have been saving some information for some time, that I find useful and thought I'd share it, and hopefully you might find it useful too.

DIY: GREEK KEY ETCHED MIRROR

I tore these pages out of a Southern Living Magazine from May, 2010. I've been saving them for sometime just for that CHANCE that I would take this on.... I hope to one day, it looks fun & easy...

LINEN SIZES FOR TABLE SIZES:

WINDOW VALENCE IDEAS

Usually when I propose valence treatments for windows (especially with drapes) I get a startled, sour/bad reaction. I keep this image torn from a House Beautiful Magazine years ago as an example of some really good ideas & shapes for window treatments...

HOW TO FOLD A NAPKIN

I have a book called
and it is full of great ideas on table settings and how to make them look fantastic.

I particularly liked the the tutorial images on how to fold napkins in unusual ways. I scanned these a long time ago, and have kept them on file for future use... The photography, all done by David Loftus, is exquisite too!

The Flatware Bag:

DECORATING TERMINOLOGY

is FULL of great information, and is well presented with good drawings and easy (as well as fun) to read.

There are a few pages I keep scanned and nearby incase I need to translate style names to a client or vendor. Here are some well-used terms, all from that book:

 DOMINO ON WINDOW TREATMENTS:

DOMINO ON UPHOLSTERY:

I always snap photos when I'm out shopping, whether its for fun or work (making sure the store owners are okay with that of course!) This is one I took while at Quatrine in Dallas. It was such a good way for me and clients to see the different options on skirt detailing for slipcovers and upholstery.

DIY PROJECT FROM GOOD HOUSEKEEPING

This is from a page torn out of Good Housekeeping, November 2010. I thought it was one of the best looking DRY ERASE boards I had seen in a long time! And it's easy!

Buy or repurpose a frame that has two pieces of glass in-between, slide a photograph inside the glass, and hang! The dry-erase markers wipe right off glass so this looks clean and modern.

ANOTHER BOOK I REALLY SUGGEST
to anyone who is interested in decorating is

This book is so informative and has tons of great advice from designers as well as such a varied style of design eye-candy... I love this book~!

Bathroom by designer Kathryn Scott, shown in The Home Book

For avid readers of the magazine, you will certainly recognize some of the images in this book... but there is great information, laid out in an easily-understandable way, that is applicable to every style and/or project.

AND lastly....

ONE MORE BOOK BY HOUSE BEAUTIFUL:

This book is another great book full of House Beautiful images and advice, in a good-size paperback style. It is easy to keep by your nightstand and flip through for some inspiration, and because the styles are pretty timeless, I think it stands the test of time!
