I am a sucker for lovely little objects and this one takes the cake (or the biscuits, rather).
This is a small piece: 7 inches tall with the lid on, and 5 3/8 inches in diamenter.
The gold accents and stars are delicate against the image of the floating dragon.
I can imagine this full of scones, biscuits, jam or even flowers... maybe a couple of bright green spider mums to complement the edges of the stars.
I love it when objects and images make me begin a narrative in my mind, and this one does that.
How else would I ever have started to think about biscuits and dragons together?
Here's what Shop Curio has to say about this lovely piece: The marks on the base of this date this piece from 1939-1952. A green "Thomas" shield mark with the red style/pattern numbers "4223 99" is printed on the bottom of the jar.
Porzellanfabrik Thomas & Ens was founded in 1904 by Fritz Thomas, in Marktredwitz (Bavaria).
Five years later, the porcelain factory, at the time called F. Thomas, Marktredwitz, was aquired by Rosenthal, but continued with its own production mark.
In 1960, porcelain production ceased at the Marktredwitz Thomas factory.
This beautiful canister has no chips, cracks, crazing, or damage. The gold trim shows no wear. A mint condition piece!
